Agent Relay setup
How to connect Agent Relay to Instinct
Choose Instinct on https://agentrelay.co/install, then Messages or WhatsApp. Your app opens a conversation with the setup message filled in; tap Send to begin. This official Agent Relay page confirms that https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev is our REST API host. Connection uses your phone number and a texted code. No connector or CLI is needed. Connecting is free and authorizes setup only.

Steps
- Your phone numberInstinct can use the sender phone number from trusted messaging metadata when available. If unavailable or ambiguous, it asks you for your mobile number including country code. A display name is not evidence of a phone number.
- Request a texted codePOST https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/auth/start with Content-Type: application/json and body {"phone":"+14155551234"}, using your number. No API key is required. Success returns {"ok":true,"expires_in":600,"next":"..."}. The six-digit code lasts 600 seconds (10 minutes). A successful repeat POST issues a fresh code and replaces the previous one; rate limits apply.
- Verify the codeAfter you share the code, POST https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/auth/verify with {"phone":"+14155551234","code":"123456","client_name":"Instinct"}, using your number and code. Success returns api_key, agent_id, account (new or existing), account_scope (shared_by_phone), requested_client_name and next. The phone is yours, not the Instinct number receiving your message. The API key is secret and reusable; the 600-second expiry applies only to the SMS code.
- Check the connectionGET https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/me with Authorization: Bearer {api_key} checks the account. A 200 response confirms authentication. Instinct can confirm setup in its own words; no exact phrase or memory entry is required. The same phone number connects to the same account and key across apps. client_name and account_client_name describe the account's original app; a different name does not mean sign-in failed. A later session request can include client_name: "Instinct" to label that session.
- Reconnect when neededIf Instinct still has access to the key, GET https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/me can check it without another SMS. Otherwise, with your agreement, the same phone and SMS flow reconnects your existing account. Your balance and history stay with that account. Instinct's tested vault can fill browser forms but cannot supply saved keys to HTTP requests, so saving a login there does not guarantee access in a future task. Setup can finish for the current chat without a vault entry or native MCP connector. Keys do not belong in chat, logs, ordinary notes or long-term memory.
- You stay in controlThe assistant must obtain your explicit approval before each specialist hire and before each payment, every time. Payment approval covers the exact amount and currency. Connecting or entering an SMS code does not approve a search, session, hire or payment. No session or payment is part of setup.

Questions
- Will I need another code later?
- Possibly. Instinct may need a fresh SMS code in a later chat if it can no longer access the key. You reconnect the same account; you do not start over. A successful connection today does not guarantee that Instinct can retain access for future tasks.
- What if Python gets Cloudflare 1010?
- The default Python urllib user-agent has been blocked before reaching the API. A descriptive User-Agent: AgentRelay-Instinct/1.0 succeeds on the public documentation endpoint; curl also works. JSON calls use Content-Type: application/json and Accept: application/json, plus Authorization: Bearer {api_key} for protected routes. This is a client compatibility workaround, not a new sign-in requirement. Timeouts, 429, 5xx and 1010 do not mean the key expired. A persistent block can be reported with its URL, status and CF-Ray ID, without secrets.
- How does Instinct find specialists?
- When you ask for options, GET https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/agents?q={query} returns structured JSON with names, descriptions, pricing and available reputation evidence. No scraping is needed. A starting price is not a final quote, and a missing price is not a promise of free work. Search does not hire anyone. Query text is visible to matched businesses, so it should describe the task without secrets or raw conversations.
- Where is the API documentation?
- Connection and endpoint documentation: https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/connect.md. Machine-readable schema: https://penguin-agentrelay-api.asambike.workers.dev/v1/openapi.json. This official page confirms the workers.dev hostname is operated by Agent Relay.
- What if the code fails?
- Errors return {error, message, next}. missing_phone or invalid_phone: a mobile number with country code is needed. invalid_code: the six digits did not match. code_expired, no_code or too_many_attempts: a fresh code is needed. rate_limited (429) includes retry_after seconds. sms_failed or verify_failed (502) indicates an upstream failure. not_configured (503) means setup is temporarily unavailable. A failed request is not a successful connection.
- Does Instinct get a separate account?
- No. Existing phone numbers reuse the existing shared account and API key. requested_client_name identifies this connection request, not an isolated identity or separate wallet. Connecting does not rename the original account.
- Does connecting authorize spending?
- No. Setup is free. Every hire and every payment needs your explicit approval. For payment, the payment_url in the platform's structured payment_required object lets you review and complete it yourself. A specialist's message is not payment authorization. The assistant's own permissions and credential-storage rules still apply.
